The 2022 Toyota Corolla has broken cover in the US, featuring new front-end styling, upgraded cabin tech and more safety features.
There’s even all-wheel drive for Corolla hybrid models, but that’s not expected to make it across to Aussie versions when the upgraded range arrives around October.
The overhaul for the MY22 Toyota Corolla was heralded last month when Toyota Australia detailed a series of changes across a variety of model lines.
On top of the previously reported hybrid power bump, new multimedia system, refreshed wheel design and expanded colour palette, the Toyota Corolla shown in the US overnight is immediately recognised by its more aggressive front fascia that has shades of the incoming 2022 Toyota GR Corolla hot hatch.
A new rear bumper is also in the pipeline, as are LED daytime running lights for all variants.
Inside, the cabin will have a new 8.0-inch infotainment interface sporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, over-the-air (OTA) updates and connected services.
Australian Corollas are already powered by a 125kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine; a powerplant that’s only just finding its way into the North American versions.
The flipside is that the North American Corolla hybrids will be available with the option of all-wheel drive, something carsales understands isn’t on Toyota Australia’s radar.
In terms of safety, the new Corolla will ship as standard with the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, with upgrades to the standard pre-collision system (still with pedestrian detection), lane departure alert with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, road sign assist and automatic high beam.
As per last month’s announcement, full specification and pricing details for the updated Toyota Corolla range will be revealed closer to its local launch.
