Mahindra has launched the new Mahindra XUV700 that looks set to provide the Indian brand with a better chance of cutting through in the ultra-competitive mid-size SUV segment.
Set to replace the ancient XUV500 that is sold under the banner of 'Australia's best value seven-seater', the 2021 Mahindra XUV700 measures in at 4695mm long, 1890mm wide and stands 1795mm tall – making it 96mm longer, 45mm wider and 110mm taller than a Toyota RAV4.
The first model to wear Mahindra's new Twin Peaks logo, the XUV700 also gets the brand's latest design language that incorporates dramatic double C-shaped LED headlights (with the graphic replicated within the grille).
Other features include a cleaner, simpler design and wraparound triangular tail-lights, but a more prominent rear spoiler.
Based on the car-maker's new W601 platform, the XUV700 will be offered with five or seven seats, as is the case with the XUV500.
Inside, the cabin gets the car-maker's latest in-car tech that includes twin 10.25-inch screens for the range-topping versions, although more affordable models make do with 8.0-inch and 7.0-inch versions.
The new infotainment system incorporates onboard Amazon Alexa assistance, while a new multifunction steering wheel and drive mode selector are also noted.
Other fresh tech includes adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and high beam assist, plus a 12-speaker 445W premium sound system.
Under the bonnet, there's the choice of a 147kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that's combined with a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto, or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel that gets either 114kW or 136kW.
All-wheel drive is available as an option on both models.
As with the XUV500, the new XUV700 is expected to be offered Down Under with entry-level pricing below $30,000 drive-away.
