The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has received a booster shot with the introduction of new mid-range E 350 variants that bring more power – but at a price.
Replacing the previous E 300 models just nine months after the large luxury car range was upgraded in Australia, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E 350 has arrived in sedan, coupe and convertible guise with a stronger and more economical 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that features the German manufacturer’s EQ-Boost mild-hybrid system.
This sees the E 350 produce 220kW and 400Nm – 30kW more power and 30Nm more torque than the outgoing E 300.
Driving the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission, the big, luxurious, 1789kg sedan can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds on its way to a governed 210km/h top speed.
By comparison, the E 300 could reach 100km/h from standstill in a claimed 6.3sec, while its official combined-cycle fuel economy rating stood at 8.0L/100km – another department where the mild-hybrid E 350 has its measure, returning just 7.7L/100km.
Equipment levels mirror that of the E 300, so the extra performance brought with the E 350 really does come at a price – $127,100 plus on-road costs for the sedan, which is a $9200 increase.
Similar increments are found on the E 350 coupe and convertible, which start from $128,200 (+$10,800) and $141,300 (+$10,400) plus ORCs respectively.
Other models in the Australian E-Class range have also increased this year, as reflected by sedan pricing which sees the entry-level E 200 sedan pushing up the opening marker to $98,700 (+$1800), the E 300e plug-in hybrid now set at $123,500 (+$2100), the Mercedes-AMG E 53 4MATIC+ at $162,300 (+$2400) and the ballistic Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ topping the range at $253,900 (+$3500).

All the improvements brought with the E-Class facelift late last year apply to the new E 350, covering exterior design, cabin fit-out, safety systems and infotainment tech.
