New Nissan 400Z to get manual gearbox

Latest vid proves retro designed Z-car will remain focused on purists ahead of its September 16 reveal

Nissan has posted another teaser of its upcoming Z Proto concept that's set to preview the long-awaited replacement for the current 370Z coupe.

Nissan has already revealed that the next-gen Z-car, hotly tipped to be called the '400Z', will feature unashamed retro styling that includes headlights inspired by the original Datsun 240Z and tail-lights that look borrowed from the 300ZX (Z32).

The most striking element of the latest video is that Nissan gives us our first peek of the latest Z-car's interior that appears to show a hand resting on a lever where a traditional manual transmission would live.

The 2021 Nissan Z is expected to be powered by an Infiniti-sourced twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 outputting about 300kW — enough to smash the upgraded 285kW Toyota Supra coming later this year.

At around $70,000, Nissan’s all-new Z should also be more affordable than the $85K Supra too, although the born-again battle between the two Japanese rear-drive sports car icons will heat up further when NISMO and GRMN versions of both coupes are released down the track.
