New Nissan Patrol still at least a year away
The old model will soldier-on as diesel-only into the sunsetThe wait is far from over for Nissan Patrol fans. The all-new model is still at least 12 months away as the right-hand-drive conversion has been pushed back by Nissan Japan yet again.
In the meantime, however, Nissan Australia has confirmed the old model will continue “into the foreseeable future” to be sold alongside the all-new vehicle.
The current model Nissan Patrol is now entering its 15th year on sale and will continue as a diesel-only alternative. The new model, sold as an Infiniti in North America, will be a petrol-only V8.
The current model Patrol will gain stability control in the first half of 2012 to help it meet future safety regulations.
Nissan Australia general manager of product planning, Phil Galway, told Motoring.com.au: “We’ll keep the current Patrol as long as there is a market for that vehicle.”
The current generation Patrol appeals to fleets, rental car operators, and grey nomads; the new model will be a luxury vehicle to rival Lexus’ LX570.
Meanwhile Nissan Australia is planning a trek across the Simpson desert next year to commemorate the first crossing in a Patrol 50 years ago.
