The fourth-generation 2022 Nissan X-TRAIL will be priced from $36,750 plus on-road costs when it arrives in Australia from around October 2022.
This represents an increase of $6085 over the previous price-leading X-TRAIL variant powered by a 2.0-litre engine, or $4085 compared to the previous base-grade 2.5-litre version.
Pitched as a family-friendly rival to the likes of the Toyota RAV4 ($34,400) and Mazda CX-5 ($32,390), the new Nissan X-TRAIL will be available in either five-seat or seven-seat configurations across four model grades including ST, ST-L, Ti and Ti-L variants, the latter topping out at $52,990 plus ORCs.
All variants get a significant uptick in equipment levels and safety systems. LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail-lights are all fitted as standard, along with adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, rear cross traffic alert, an electric park brake and paddle shifters.
Family-friendly features like such as 90-degree-opening rear doors, sliding rear seats (ST-L and above) and four USB ports are also included, but key features like a power-operated tailgate, automatic wipers, 12.3-inch central touch-screen and digital driver’s display are offered only in the up-spec Ti and Ti-L variants starting at $49,990.

The new X-TRAIL is part of Nissan’s core SUV rejuvenation, which will see all-new versions of the QASHQAI small SUV and Pathfinder large SUV arriving in Australia from around October as well.
Nissan’s fourth-gen X-TRAIL will be powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (135kW/244Nm) that delivers an increase of 9kW of power and 18Nm of torque compared to the previous 2.5-litre engine, together with an increased towing capacity (from 1.5 to 2.0 tonnes).
The price-leading 2.0-litre engine has been deleted from the X-TRAIL range and a new hybrid powertrain will join the fun down the track.
Based on the same CMF-C platform architecture as the Mitsubishi Outlander, the new Nissan X-TRAIL is set to veer down a different hybrid path to its PHEV cousin, with Nissan officially confirming a fuel-sipping e-POWER version that’s widely expected to leverage the same plugless hybrid powertrain (140kW/330Nm) seen on the QASHQAI will be also be coming to Australia.
Nissan’s e-POWER powertrains differ to most conventional hybrids because the electric motors exclusively drive the wheels, providing EV-like propulsion, as the petrol engine serves exclusively as a battery-charging generator. It’s understood Nissan’s first X-TRAIL e-POWER hybrid will be on sale in Australia in 2023.
