Porsche has released a new teaser of its reborn 2022 Porsche 911 Sport Classic ahead of its expected reveal later this year.
In a story posted on the official Porsche Newsroom Instagram profile, the first peek at the retro-inspired version of the 992-generation-based 911 Sport Classic shows off a car painted in a similar hue to the 2009 911 Sport Classic special-edition.
Featuring the caption "shades of the past", it appears the limited-edition Sport Classic will feature a modified front bumper with squarer side intakes that flank a slimmer central air dam.
On the bonnet, unusual blue and light-grey bonnet stripes are employed, suggesting the blue and grey-on-grey colour theme continues elsewhere.
Not pictured, but hinted at within the paint booth as the blue paint is applied, is a trademark ducktail spoiler that on the 2009 911 Sport Classic paid tribute to the legendary 1973 911 2.7 Carrera RS.
No date has been officially released for the 2022 version, with the German car-maker insisting we "stay tuned".
Back in 2009, Porsche decided to make just 250 examples of the previous 911 Sport Classic that was based on the 997-series 911.
As well as the retro rear wing, the Sport Classic also adopted a modern take on the original car's Fuch alloy wheels, had a double-bubble roof and featured an uprated version of the 911 Carrera S 3.8-litre direct-injection flat-six engine that produced 300kW (up 17kW on the standard car.)
It was matched to a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox.
Porsche claimed the 2009 Sport Classic could accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.6sec and reach 302km/h.
Suspension and brakes were also upgraded, in addition to the fitment of Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Its ride height was lowered by 20mm, while a limited-slip diff and carbon ceramic composite brakes were included too.
It's thought the 2022 Sport Classic reboot will follow this formula and could possibly be based on the upcoming Porsche 911 GT3 Touring as a starting point.
As well as the 911 Sport Classic, Porsche will soon unveil the new 911 GT3 RS, 911 Safari/Dakar and 911 hybrid, all of which have been spotted testing both on track and road.
