New Porsche 911 Turbo sets lap record at The Bend

Our man Youlden adds production car lap record to his outright Bathurst lap record

The new Porsche 911 Turbo has set a new production lap record at The Bend Motorsport Park in the hands of carsales’ own Luke Youlden.

Youlden smashed the previous record of 3:24.079, set by former Carrera Cup Australia race winner Warren Luff in the Porsche 911 GT2 RS back in 2018, by more than two seconds with a time of 3:22.066 around The Bend’s full 7.7km configuration – the world’s second-longest permanent racing circuit behind the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

The new Bend record follows the official outright Bathurst lap record (1:58.67) set by carsales’ track and road testing ace – who’ll also contest the 2021 Bathurst 1000, Porsche Carrera Cup and Australian GT Championship – in the homegrown Brabham BT62 in February 2019.

Youlden’s new Bend benchmark not only shows the capabilities of the 911 Turbo, but the improvement in grip and overall speed at The Bend since its opening three years ago.

“Since the first lap record set by Porsche at The Bend, our 7.7km GT Circuit has seen a lot more use, including a round of the Asian Le Mans Series,” said The Bend managing director Sam Shahin.

“I’m excited to see what future Porsche product is capable of around the GT layout.”
