New Pug ready for gruelling Redex revival

Peugeot will relive its inspiring victory in the very first (1953) Redex Trial next week when the French brand's new 3008 SUV retraces the gruelling trek with a 8500km tribute drive across the Australian outback.

The event, which will coincide with Peugeot's 200th anniversary celebrations, will begin in Sydney on Friday before heading north to Townsville, across to Tennant Creek, through Alice Springs, before finally wrapping up in Adelaide 15 days later.

Team Carsales will join the event in Townsville following a similar route to that taken in 1953 by Ken Tubman and John Marshall in their Peugeot 203. Piloting one of two new Peugeot 3008s, our own Feann Torr will drive two stints of the historic event, finishing in Alice Springs on July 22.

Receptions and displays have been organised in towns and cities along the way, rural Peugeot dealerships keen to be part of the event. The public is invited to join in at stops on the route, each recognising the heritage of the Peugeot brand and acknowledging Peugeot's future direction.

The trek will begin from the original location at Driver Avenue, Moore Park. It was here that 50,000 people waved off the original Redex field in 1953, with a further 150,000 lining the Sydney streets to see them head north on their arduous adventure. That first Redex reliability trial was run over 6500 miles in two weeks, from Sydney north to Townsville, across to Darwin, down to Port Augusta, then back to Sydney via Adelaide and Melbourne.
