New Range Rover already in short supply

Strong early interest will see demand exceed supply for Land Rover's fourth-generation Range Rover next year

Demand for the fourth-generation Range Rover will exceed supply when first Australian deliveries commence in the February next year.

Land Rover Australia had already received more than 25 firm orders for the all-new Rangie when it made its local debut at the Sydney motor show, where it received more than 600 expressions of interest.

Two examples of the new Rangie are now being shown to potential customers in eastern-state capitals including Sydney and Melbourne ahead of first deliveries in February.

Land Rover it admits the release of its redesigned all-aluminium Rangie, which arrives with weight savings of up to 420kg and a base price increase of almost $7000, was delayed due to the GFC in 2008 – the same year Ford sold the company to India’s Tata Motors.

Despite now being a decade old, the outgoing third-generation Range Rover is still expected to attract up to 30,000 sales globally this year.

Range Rover sales are down more than 20 per cent in Australia, where 145 have been sold to October, but the new model is forecast to eclipse its predecessor’s popularity both here and in overseas markets.

Land Rover sales are up almost 38 per cent overall in Australia, thanks largely to the new Range Rover Evoque, which has found some 2178 new homes here this year – making it Australia’s top-selling luxury SUV and accounting for almost a third of the brand’s 6668 sales so far in 2012 – up 1826 on the first 10 months of 2011.

The smallest Range Rover will attract in excess of 100,000 sales this year – almost double the company’s original forecast - making it Land Rover’s most successful model ever.

Globally, Land Rover sold 22,166 vehicles in October (up 17 per cent on the same month last year) and has now sold more than 249,414 vehicles so far this year – up a huge 41 per cent on 2011 figures.

As we’ve reported, Land Rover plans to release a bevy of new models over the next five years, which will bring the SUV brand’s model range to 16 by 2020,

By that time Land Rover expects to have increased by 40 per cent its share of a global SUV market that it believes will top 20 million annual sales.
