The all-new 2025 Rivian R2 has been teased again – and had crucial details leaked online – just hours before its official reveal in the US this week, ahead of first deliveries expected late this year.
A single image of the Tesla Model Y rival show how the battery-electric R2 mid-size SUV’s looks are clearly derived from the bigger R1S, with boxy styling and a full-width LED lightbar.
Ahead of its unveiling, online forums have also leaked technical details of the R2 after an owner reportedly accessed the Rivian website’s source code and discovered a page reserved for the new R2.

According to Twitter user Chris Hilbert, the new Rivian R2 will be priced from $US47,500 ($A72,300) and will offer a driving range of up to 531km.
It will reportedly also be capable of launching from 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in just 3.0 seconds, suggesting serious levels of power.
The leak suggests the R2 will measure in at 4714mm long, 1905mm wide and stand 1700mm tall – figures that show just how closely matched it will be to the Tesla Model Y (4750mm high, 1921mm wide and 1624mm tall).
The evidence of a 249mm ground clearance (more than a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series) suggests that the R2 will be far more accomplished off-road compared to other all-electric mid-size SUVs.
Rivian will soon begin taking refundable deposits ahead of first deliveries in the final quarter.
For now, a dual-cab ute derivative isn’t anticipated to be launched alongside the R2, as per Rivian’s existing R1 twins.
Originally, Rivian announced that a launch in Australia was on the cards but has subsequently given no indication as to when – or if – right-hand drive production will get underway.
