Skoda has confirmed it will unveil its flagship 2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo small car on February 15.
Previewed via official design sketches earlier this month, the Monte Carlo will top the fourth-generation Skoda Fabia line-up globally – with no current plans for a more powerful Fabia RS that would share underpinnings with the peppy Volkswagen Polo GTI .
Volkswagen Australia is yet to officially confirm the 2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo will grace showrooms Down Under, but it’s expected to be sold here alongside lower-tier models that continue to be subject to launch timing setbacks.
A Skoda Australia spokesperson has confirmed to carsales that the fourth-generation Fabia would now land around July this year – some four months later than initially expected and more than a year after it first debuted globally.
Ambition and Style models are anticipated for Oz, as is a Launch Edition.
“We’re currently discussing what the opening line-up is going to look like,” the spokesperson said.
“The current thinking is to open with a Launch Edition as we’ve done historically with other Skoda models. It’s a conversation that’s still in progress.”
The Monte Carlo designation has been a popular one at Skoda, used by the Czech car-maker for over a decade to commemorate the manufacturer’s successes at the Monte Carlo rally.
Currently, Skoda offers Scala Monte Carlo and Kamiq Monte Carlo models in Australia.
In the Fabia, the badge is expected to bring a sportier front bumper with gloss-black grille surround, beefier side skirts and a black diffuser on the lower half of the rear bumper.
A gloss black roof, rear spoiler and mirror caps are also expected, as are new 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels that are evidenced in the initial design sketches.
Exterior design elements are set to be mirrored in the cabin, with plenty of contrasting red accents and splashes of faux carbon-fibre trim, together with height-adjustable sports seats.
The design drawings show the Fabia gets the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that is optional on other models, plus a 9.2-inch infotainment system.
Skoda is yet to confirm which engine will power the Fabia Monte Carlo. With mainstream versions likely to continue with an 81kW/200Nm 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, it could score the Volkswagen Group’s punchier 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo four.
All will be revealed on February 15.
