New Ssangyong Actyon Sports ute coming
It may not have Hyundai levels of respect, but Ssangyong is slowly rebuilding the brand, including a new, fresh-faced ute in MarchDue to reach Australian dealerships in March, Ssangyong's updated Actyon Sports ute boasts an angular new exterior design that veers away from the controversially swoopy styling of its predecessor.
Though pricing is yet to be announced, the new Actyon Sports ute is expected to undercut most of the competition in terms of price, except for the Chinese brands.
"While we can't reveal the specifications for the Australian market until launch date, we're confident of giving our competitors a run for their money," said Ssangyong Australia's Director, Jeff Barber.
Barber said there will be three derivatives of the Korean ute – the Tradie, Sports and SPR, available in 4x2 and 4x4, six-speed manual and an Australian-made six speed automatic transmission.
Some of the features expected to make it into the local-spec utes include stability control, ABS, Bluetooth audio streaming and a reversing camera.
The Actyon Sports should be powered by the same 2.0-litre e-XDi200 turbodiesel engine that impressed us in the Ssangyong Korando, which outputs 114kw/360Nm -- an increase of 10kW/50Nm over the existing model.
Sssangyong sold 620 Actyon Sports utes (4x2 and 4x4) in Australia during 2011.
