New Subaru Forester and Outback special-editions arrive

Marginal price premium accompanied by some handy equipment upgrades for limited-edition Subaru SUVs

Subaru Australia has revealed a couple of new special-editions designed to inject more value and plug the spec gap between certain variants of its mid-size and large SUV models.

The 2024 Subaru Forester 2.5i Luxury AWD Special Edition and the 2024 Subaru Outback AWD Premium Special Edition are priced at $39,690 and $47,190 plus on-road costs respectively, and each is based on the entry-level grades in their line-ups.

The Forester special is just $1000 dearer than the base 2.5i AWD and shares the same standard equipment but adds black leather upholstery and a bunch of interior upgrades pinched from the flagship 2.5i-S AWD, including premium dashboard, centre console and door trim accents.

Common equipment between the two grades includes 17-inch alloy wheels, X-Mode, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with smartphone mirroring, six-speaker sound system and Bluetooth, plus keyless entry/start and dual-zone climate control.

It’s a similar story with the Outback, except the Premium Special Edition is priced $3500 upstream of the eponymous base model and adds Nappa leather seat upholstery, heated front and rear outboard seats, sat-nav and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Other kit highlights include an 11.6-inch portrait infotainment system, dual-mode X-Mode, 18-inch alloys, self-levelling LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, smartphone mirroring, six-speaker sound system, keyless entry/start, digital radio and Bluetooth.

No changes have been made to the 2.5-litre flat four-cylinder petrol engine powering either model, nor their symmetrical all-wheel-drive systems or continuously variable transmissions.

“We are delighted to introduce these two special editions which build on the already incredible value these two models represent and offer our customers more options to choose from,” said newly appointed Subaru Australia general manager Scott Lawrence.

Both new special-editions are now available in limited quantities via Subaru’s national dealer network.
