New Subaru Impreza locked in for November 17 reveal

Next-generation Japanese small car will debut in LA with sharp new styling inspired by Crosstrek

Subaru has confirmed its new-generation 2023 Subaru Impreza will make its global on November 17, just over two months after the related Subaru Crosstrek compact SUV broke cover.

Whereas the first- and second-gen Crosstreks (Subaru XV) were derived from the Impreza, it seems the situation has been flipped on its head this time around, at least as far as timing is concerned.

Which model spawned which isn’t much of an issue these days, however, given both the new Crosstrek and the forthcoming Impreza are underpinned by the same modular Subaru Global Platform, but the relationship between the small SUV and passenger car will be obvious judging by this latest teaser.

Subaru’s US arm announced the date of the reveal overnight and released a coloured teaser image showing part of the new Impreza’s front facia, which looks largely similar to the Crosstrek’s apart from the height of the grille and texture of the mesh.

Other subtler differences include some marginal contouring changes along the top of the grille and a black finish for the grille garnish, as opposed to the SUV’s silver.

The foglight bezels also vary due to the Impreza’s obvious lack of off-road-friendly body cladding, but the headlight design, bonnet lines and major bumper contouring all look the same.

Under said bonnet will more than likely be a familiar but enhanced pairing of flat four-cylinder powertrains carried over from the current-generation Impreza and XV, each displacing 2.0 litres and one being electrified.

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) will again be responsible for sending power symmetrically to all four wheels.

The new Subaru Impreza’s global public debut will take place at next week’s Los Angeles auto show, with the livestream set to be hosted by American rallycross – and Subaru factory – driver Bucky Lasek.
