A new-generation Subaru SUV is just around the corner and will be revealed on September 15, with many believing it to be the third-generation Subaru XV.
The timeframe for an all-new Subaru XV certainly stacks up, given the first-generation small SUV had a six-year model life (2012-2017) and a mid-lifecycle facelift for the original XV was released in the closing stages of 2020.
It’s unlikely we’ll see the new model Down Under by the end of the year, but that hasn’t topped the hype being stirred up by a mysterious new teaser video posted to Subaru’s Japanese webpage and YouTube channel.
The 15-second clip is full of shadowy close-ups and long-range panning shots which, very few of which give us anything concrete to go off.
That said, there is a one frame showing off the top of the wheel-arches and illuminated tail-lights that reveals the latter’s close proximity to the rear doors and a particularly small window behind the C-pillar.
The other main indication is a frontal shot of the car entering a dark tunnel, revealing the car’s compact overall stature.
In terms of the specific features we can see, the new model looks to be flaunting a more chiselled look overall with squarer lines and a marginally bigger body.
The roof rails that are a signature of just about every SUV these days are present, as are new front and rear lighting signatures, a new grille and fresh alloy wheels.
Subaru Australia is staying tight-lipped on the matter, insisting that more details will be shared on the day of the reveal.
Rumour has it the new XV will be powered by a new turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine said to deliver more torque and consume less fuel than the current free-breathing 2.0-litre.
Transmission duties will almost certainly be handled by the brand’s latest CVT auto, which will continue ship drive out to all four wheels.
