NEW YORK MOTOR SHOW: Fresh Mitsubishi Outlander teased again

Mitsubishi has released two new teaser images of the facelifted Outlander ahead of its New York motor show debut

Mitsubishi has revealed more of the facelifted 2016 Outlander that will make its world debut at the New York motor show on April 1 before being launched in Australia just two weeks later next month.

It’s now clear from the images that the thorough facelift of Mitsubishi's mid-size SUV stalwart borrows design cues from the Outlander PHEV Concept S seen at last year's Paris motor show.

The 2016 Outlander reveals Mitsubishi's new global brand identity and borrows some elements from the recent XR-PHEV and GC-PHEV, with its chrome accents around the new grille and new headlight clusters.

The facelifted Outlander is also said to introduce a revised interior, although Mitsubishi has yet to release details or pics.

It’s not known what mechanical changes the facelifted Outlander will come with. Last year’s Concept S came with the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, twin electric motors and 12kW/h lithium ion battery as the current Outlander PHEV.

The current model pumps out 87kW/186Nm from its petrol engine and up to 60kW/137Nm and 60kW/195Nm from the front and rear electric motors respectively. Together, they provide for an all-electric range of around 52km and average fuel consumption of just 1.9L/100km.

Mitsubishi will reveal more information closer to the 2016 Outlander's official unveiling next week in New York.
