NEW YORK MOTOR SHOW: Mazda6 next for SKYACTIV tech
Entirely new mid-size model in Mazda's product range next to offer SKYACTIV efficiencyMazda has confirmed production of the all-new Mazda6 model in North America for the 2014 model year. And the new model will be powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre petrol engine in the US.
Scheduled to go on sale there during the first quarter of next year, the next-gen Mazda6 will feature either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions, both having the SKYACTIV wand waved over them.
“With SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine, Mazda has showcased that improving engine and vehicle efficiencies can still produce a dynamic-performing driving machine, as evidenced by the 2012 Mazda3 and 2013 CX-5,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda's North American Operations, as quoted in a press release. “The all-new 2014 Mazda6 will be the latest Mazda to break out of its segment’s monotonous mould and be fiercely competitive versus the current sales leaders.”
The new '6' will embody many of the design elements incorporated in the Takeri show car introduced at the Tokyo motor show last year — also displayed in New York this week — and the entire production model range will have its global unveiling late in September, at the Paris motor show.
Expect the new Mazda6 to arrive in Oz before the middle of next year.
