Group Australia has advised It might not look significantly different, but Volkswagen’s 2015 Jetta is claimed to bring new styling, driver assistance systems and improved fuel efficiency.
Revealed ahead of its world debut at tomorrow’s New York motor show, the US version of VW’s facelifted small sedan arrives in North American showrooms in the third quarter of this year and could provide clues to the vehicle Australians will get access to later this year.
The revised Jetta features subtly updated front and rear bumpers, plus resculpted foglights and a new three-bar grille with active-shutter technology on some models.
It is flanked by headlights with L-shaped LED daytime running lights and optional bi-xenon beams and the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS).
At the rear, there’s a revised bootlid and tail-lights (LED on some variants), while inside there’s an upgraded cabin with chrome instrument dial surrounds, piano-black centre console trim, revised air-vent controls and dual-zone climate controls.
There’s also new equipment for some trim grades, including a new multi-function steering wheel, colour multi-function display, ambient lighting and new seat trim fabrics.
New driver aids include Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Frontal Collision Warning System and Park Distance Control.
Volkswagen says overall efficiency has also increased via improved aerodynamics, lower rolling-resistance tyres and the latest EA288 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel engine, which will join 1.8- and 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engines and a 1.4-litre TSI hybrid.
Currently priced from $24,990, Australia’s Jetta is available in three 1.4-litre TSI model grades, plus the top-shelf 2.0-litre 103TDI Highline.
VW has sold more than 14 million Jettas (formerly the Golf sedan) globally since 1979, including 925,000 last year.
