Next-gen Ford Mondeo leaked

Replacement Mondeo sees sedan and wagon morph into Subaru Outback rival

Leaked pictures of what's claimed to be the all-new fifth-generation Ford Mondeo have appeared online that prove the Blue Oval's sedan and wagon will transition into a high-riding crossover in 2021.

The new images, posted by Autohome, reveal the next Mondeo (named the Fusion in the US) will sport ultra-slim headlights, a full-length light bar and a huge front grille when the drapes come off later in 2021.

Riding far higher than the current model, the next Mondeo is thought to target crossovers like the Subaru Outback and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack.

Other details include flush-mounted door handles, roof rails and a panoramic roof.

Towards the rear of the car there's surprisingly rakish styling, suggesting a far sportier bent than the current Ford Mondeo workhorse.

Inside, it looks like the Mondeo will usher-in Ford's next-generation cabin design with the images showing an almost-full length widescreen digital instrument cluster and infotainment system that's set to use a new operating system controlled by gestures, voice and touch.

Other things to note is the clean minimalist design, rotary gear selector and new look that appears to target more premium rivals.

Under the bonnet, expect Ford to introduce a full range of electrified engines, including a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive will be offered.
