The second-generation 2024 Cadillac XT5 has been leaked online ahead of its launch in China, giving us our first look at the American alternative to premium mid-size SUVs like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
The first images, discovered by GM Authority, were thought to have been released by a Chinese government agency and show how the US luxury brand will apply its latest EV design language on a traditional combustion-powered SUV.
Full details have yet to be revealed on the new XT5, but it’s thought the more upright proportions, arrowhead split headlights, smoother lines and generally more upmarket look hide a heavily overhauled version of the current model that sits on GM’s C1-2 platform.
Although it was never built in right-hand drive, the first-generation XT5 was packaged-protected for right-hook production, so the door remains open for the new model to be offered in Australia as Cadillac finally returns Down Under, starting with the Lyriq large electric SUV this year.
Based on Chinese government data, the new XT5 measures 4888mm long, stretching much further than the Mercedes-Benz GLC (4716mm) and suggesting a third row could be offered.
Under the bonnet, the latest addition to Cadillac’s mostly all-electric offering is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol that produces 169kW.
More powerful variants are expected to join the range later.
The official unveiling of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 now looks set to happen soon, possibly at the Shanghai motor show in April.
