As the world premiere of the 2022 Maserati GranTurismo draws near, the new-generation GT has had its camouflage peeled back in these unofficial renders.
The work of the design wizards at Kolesa, the Italian car-maker’s next-gen sports-luxury coupe – which will include a pioneering EV variant – is nearing the end of its engineering development program.
But the official unveiling is still to take place, leaving us only with authorised camo-clad pics and shots from our spy photographers in Europe.
Until these.
Taking styling cues from the 2014 Maserati Alfieri concept as well as the ageing V8-powered GT it’s set to replace, Maserati’s new GranTurismo is portrayed as retaining its sleek, flowing silhouette and chunky slotted grille finished with the famed trident badge.
Up front, the headlights are more vertical than before, while the tail-lights stretch wider and are much slimmer, now connected with a solid black body line.
A small boot lid spoiler also features, as does a large diffuser similar to the outgoing model.
A slight difference, however, is the rendered vehicle’s quad exhaust tips, which unlike its predecessor are mounted outside the diffuser instead of being integrated within.
The pure-electric versions of the new GranTurismo will use the company’s in-house-developed Folgore powertrain that’s expected to be offered with both dual and triple electric motors, with the fastest version set to deliver a 0-100km/h acceleration time of less than three seconds.
Full technical details are still to be released, with the European launch set to take place in the final quarter of this year ahead of first Australian deliveries later in 2022.
It’ll be a big year for the brand, with the long-awaited 2022 Maserati MC20 supercar, as well as the Maserati Grecale SUV, also due to launch Down Under.
