Next Skoda Octavia teased further

Skoda uses Facebook to release a series of teaser images of its redesigned Octavia

We’ve seen a succession of spy shots and the first official teaser video and now Skoda has used Facebook to release a series of teaser images of its next-generation Octavia.

The replacement for the Czech car-maker’s global best-seller will be revealed in full within a few weeks – prior to January’s Detroit motor show, which Skoda won’t attend as the Volkswagen Group continues to consider which of its budget brands to launch in North America.

As these images of its grille, tail-light, C-pillar and wing mirror show, the new Octavia will be ready for launch in Europe well before the Geneva show in March, when Skoda is expected to reveal a range-topping RS version, as well as the five-door ‘Spaceback’ version of the all-new Rapid sedan due here in April.

The Rapid hatchback will cap a huge 12 months for Skoda in Australia, where the Rapid sedan launches in the second quarter of 2013, followed by the newOctavia liftback in the second half and the Rapid hatch in early 2014.

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform, which also underpins the upcoming Golf Mk7, the new Octavia will wear the same crisp design language as the smaller Rapid, including a new-look grille adorned by Skoda’s fresh corporate badge.

The new Octavia will be larger in all key dimensions than the existing model, which has now been around for eight years, and is also said to feature a higher-quality cabin with better trim materials to allow it to compete more directly with the best mainstream mid-size models including the redesigned Mazda6.

New underpinnings should also bring better ride and handling, as well as helping it to shed some weight despite being around 250mm longer (at circa-4800mm) than the existing car.

As per the Golf it shares its platform with, the Octavia will be offered with a range of diesel and petrol engines, and the high-po RS variant will be propelled by a version of the new Golf GTI’s 162kW/350Nm 2.0-litre four-pot turbo-petrol engine.
