Nissan Australia promises 11 new or updated models by 2027

Ariya EV timing confirmed, but don’t hold your breath for a Nissan Z Warrior

Nissan Australia has announced it will launch four all-new and seven updated products by March 2027.

But don’t expect to see the Nissan Z Warrior off-road sports car among them!

The overhaul was confirmed by new Nissan Australia managing director Andrew Humberstone during an outline of the company’s long-term business plan to media yesterday.

The new business plan developed by Humberstone is designed to lock Nissan into Australia’s top six sellers and ensure its profitability.

The four all-new models include the long-anticipated battery electric Ariya SUV that is now confirmed to arrive in the second half of 2025 and the Y63 Patrol which goes on-sale in late 2026.

The new Nissan Navara ute and the third-generation Nissan Leaf compact EV complete the quartet, although no specific timing for the latter two vehicles was offered by the Nissan Australia chief.

However, the Leaf – which evolves from passenger car to SUV – and the Navara have previously been reported as arriving in Australia in 2026.

Nissan offered no detail on the seven updated cars that would be applied by March 2027, the date which marks the end of the Japanese auto manufacturers current ‘Arc’ global business plan.

These product updates to existing vehicles will be of varying levels of significance, carsales understands, from major to minor facelifts and potentially other actions.

But with a total nine models in its current line-up – with three set to be replaced – that suggests no Nissan will go untouched in that timeframe and some could get more than one update.

The X-Trail has just had a minor update and there are confirmed updates for the QASHQAI compact SUV, Juke small SUV and the existing Navara en route.

“We are continuing to invest, we're continuing to be committed to the market,” said Humberstone.

“We've got four new products which you'll be familiar with and we've discussed with you previously - the Ariya, the Y63 Patrol that was launched recently in the Middle East.

“We will be the first right-hand drive market in the world to get that [Patrol], the new Navara and then of course the new Nissan Leaf.

“So, excitingly, we'll have two new battery electric vehicles along with two new models in some of the most popular segments that we currently play. And so a lot of stuff happening.”

Humberstone promised the Ariya would be sold in Australia in different specifications and battery sizes.

The Nissan Australia boss also confirmed separately to carsales that a recent move to trademark the Z Warrior name did not mean Nissan’s local performance partner Premcar was going to develop an off-road capable version of the sports car to sit alongside the existing Navara and Patrol Warriors.

“What it is, is just good practice,” said Humberstone. “Every now and then we look at our trademarks and we make sure that we protect our trademarks and we protect our products.

“Within that there is no hidden message – it’s just good business.

“When we come to Z it’s more around a NISMO [on-road sports] concept whereas Warrior is more a 4x4 concept.”
