Nissan launches new logo

Ariya electric SUV to debut first new Nissan new logo in two decades – but is it really that different?

When a car brand changes its corporate logo, it’s a big deal – not unlike someone shaving their head after decades of long hair.

Volkswagen and BMW did it recently and now, for the first time in 20 years, Nissan has changed its logo.

Nissan’s new moniker retains the car-maker’s name in the middle of a circle, but the latter is more stylish and the Nissan name is in a different font.

The new badge will make its debut on the Nissan Ariya, which will head into Japanese showrooms in mid-2021 and is likely to come to Australia in early 2022.

The sleeker logo will be slightly different again for corporate use, such as on official literature and on buildings including dealerships.

Nissan showrooms across the world, including in Australia, will be refitted with the new corporate logo soon.

Nissan electric vehicles will get illuminated logos, as evidenced on the new Ariya, the Nissan logo on which has 20 small LEDs behind it.

According to Nissan the new logo “comes alive as it pivots to the future” but also stays “proudly connected to its rich heritage, and tradition of innovation”.

“The company name remains at the center of the logo, communicating an instantly recognizable brand that evokes past milestones and memories while also conveying evolution.”

New models such as the facelifted Nissan Navara coming in later 2020 and the all-new Nissan 400Z will be among the new vehicles to bear the updated badge.

And the latter will bring a new Z badge too.
