The 2019 Nissan QASHQAI range has been expanded in Australia with the addition of a new ST+ model, slotting smack-bang into the middle of the range priced from $30,790.
Priced $1300 above the entry-level automatic QASHQAI ST ($29,490), the ST+ adds a 360-degree surround-view parking camera system with moving object detection, displayed through a 7.0-inch touch-screen display that also includes sat-nav with traffic alerts.
Other features fitted as standard to the 2019 Nissan QASHQAI ST+ include a digital radio tuner, tinted windows and power-folding (and heated) door mirrors.
These features are lumped on top of the standard equipment found on the ST model-grade, such as LED daytime-running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, cruise control, a leather-accented steering wheel and Bluetooth phone/device streaming.
Safety features include six-airbags, stability control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning and two ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
"Reducing the gap between the QASHQAI ST and ST-L will please many of our buyers who wanted more than what we offered on the entry grade, but weren't in the market for a higher spec vehicle," said Nissan Australia managing director, Stephen Lester.
"It’s a competitive market, so it is important that we react to this to ensure buyers remain with the Nissan brand."
The Nissan QASHQAI ST+ model-grade comes after the Pathfinder ST+ arrived in March 2019.
All QASHQAI models are powered by a 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine (106kW/200Nm) hooked up to an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
A six-speed manual is available only on the entry-level ST grade, shaving $2000 off the price to $27,490.
Fuel economy of 6.9L/100km is claimed, while boot space is 430 litres, expanding to 1598 litres with the back seats folded down, making it one of the biggest cargo holds in its class.
Although Nissan QASHQAI sales are down 11 per cent for the first three months of 2019, from 3349 to 2980, it is still a dominant force in the small SUV segment as the fourth most popular vehicle behind the Mitsubishi ASX (6176), Mazda CX-3 (3727) and Honda HR-V (3259).
