Nissan Australia has released 13 new variants for its latest NP300 Navara — including the Single Cab, King Cab and Dual Cab Chassis options announced in September plus genuine steel and aluminium bullbars with a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
The rating was earned after bullbar-equipped Navaras were subjected to separate frontal crash testing. Four genuine Nissan bars are available for the NP300 range; two in aluminium and two in steel.
After two years’ development and final styling completed in Australia to ensure, for example, adequate engine cooling, the Nissan genuine bullbars integrate with the vehicle’s on-board safety systems to ensure effective airbag deployment and seat belt tension.
“Many of our NP300 Navara customers fit various types of accessories to their vehicles and the traditional Australian bullbar is one of the most popular,” said Richard Emery, Nissan Australia’s Managing Director and CEO.
“Nissan’s steel and aluminium bullbars have been carefully designed and engineered to work in complete harmony with all of the NP300 Navara’s structural elements and onboard safety systems.”
The 13 additional variants will boost the Navara’s market opportunity as it faces continued strong competition, especially against the latest versions of market-leaders Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger. The dual-cab NP300 arrived for sale in June this year.
VFACTS data for October 2015 showed existing dual-cab Navara 4x2 sales hit 308 units; up from 140 in October 2014 and enough for fourth in segment, behind HiLux (738), Ranger (514) and Mitsubishi’s Triton (355).
Shifting to the 4x4 pick up and cab chassis segment, Navara was fifth with 1139 October registrations. This was up marginally on its predecessor’s 1076 sales in October 2014, but fell behind HiLux (2601), Ranger (2083), Holden’s Colorado (1224) and Triton (1197).
These new tradie-biased variants are equipped with a leaf-spring rear suspension layout, as opposed to the multi-link coil system of the existing NP300 dual cabs.
The Single Cab is available as a Cab Chassis only. It’s available in two trim levels; DX or RX.
A 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder producing 122kW/238Nm is only available in the price-leading DX 4x2 variant. Fuel consumption is a claimed 9.9L/100km.
A single-turbo 2.3-litre diesel four-pot is available in the 4x4 version, producing 120kW/403Nm and using 6.6L/100km. Both use a six-speed manual transmission with no automatic option. Payload and towing capacity is 1228kg/1588kg for DX 4x2, 1196kg/3500kg for DX 4x4.
Standard spec includes seating for two, seven airbags, six-way adjustable driver’s seat, four-speaker audio with single CD player, radio, AUX and USB/iPod connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, three separate 12-volt outlets and full-size spare, with 15-inch steel road wheels.
Opt for the Navara RX Single Cab and the single-turbo diesel is the sole engine for both 4x2 and 4x4 models. The RX 4x2 has a 1362kg payload and 3500kg braked towing and uses 6.4L/100km, while the 4x4 option has 1284kg payload (or 1278kg with the optional seven-speed automatic, only available on this variant), along with 3500kg towing. Its fuel consumption reads 6.6L/100km, or 7.1L/100km when optioned with the automatic.
The King Cab variants have seating for four, with simple rear access achieved via a reverse-opening door panel located behind the main doors on either side of the vehicle.
RX is the base King Cab specification. It’s available in 4x2 Cab Chassis, 4x4 Cab Chassis and 4x4 Pick Up body styles, with the single-turbo diesel donk under the bonnet in all. RX 4x2 has a 1261kg payload, RX 4x4 1183kg and RX 4x4 Pick Up 1047kg. All offer 3500kg braked towing.
Rear air-conditioning vents and an additional 12-volt outlet in the cargo space build on the Single Cab specification.
The ST variant gains reversing camera, LED projector headlights and 16-inch alloy wheels, along with the twin-turbo 2.3-litre diesel and 140kW/450Nm seen in our Dual Cab long-termer.
Available with six-speed manual or optional seven-speed automatic transmission, the ST consumes 6.5L/100kg and has a 1002kg payload in manual form, or 7.0L/100km and 999kg with the auto. It’s only available as a Pick Up.
Top-line ST-X is again Pick Up only and twin-turbo diesel-powered. It gains sat-nav, leather-accented seating with eight-way adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate, keyless entry/go and 18-inch alloy wheels. Fuel consumption is as per ST, while payload is 969kg (966kg auto), with 3500kg towing.
Finally, the Dual Cab Chassis is 4x4 only and is available as a six-speed manual with the single-turbo diesel in RX trim and 6.6L/100km fuel consumption. Payload is 1151kg, towing 3500kg, and the rear section is designed to accept a drop-side cargo tray.
