The popular Isuzu MU-X has been gifted a series of subtle styling and specification updates for the 2023 model year, and consumers will be thrilled to hear the upgrades haven’t impacted any of the large SUV’s recommended retail prices.
That means the MY23 Isuzu MU-X range still starts at $48,900 plus on-road costs for the base LS-M 4x2 and tops out at 65,990 drive-away for the top-spec LS-T 4x4 flagship.
Due in showrooms from December, the revised MU-X brings cosmetic updates led by refreshed alloy wheel designs and a new two-tone grille finish that varies between the base LS-M variants and the more lavish LS-Us and flagship LS-Ts.
The base model retains the previous black-on-black finish but the contrast between the central elements and the rest of the grille has been emphasised a little more, whereas the higher grades get a new ‘magnetite and black chrome’ colour scheme.
As you’ll be able to see from the accompanying images, ‘magnetite’ is code for metallic grey and has been used elsewhere on the LS-U and LS-T packages, including the bumpers, foglight trims, roof rails and side steps, as well as a few trim elements within the cabin.
All versions score darkened tail-light trim as per the related Isuzu D-MAX range, which has also just been updated for 2023.
No changes have been made to the MU-X’s lauded 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder powerplant, which continues to churn out 140kW/450Nm and drive either the rear or all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The same can’t be said for the off-roader’s standard kit list, which has gained a few key additions for the new model year, the most notable being the automatic deactivation of the blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert systems when a trailer or caravan is hitched up to the vehicle via the genuine tow bar and wiring harness.
LS-U and LS-T grades have also scored tyre pressure monitoring as standard, as well as a new remote and hands-free powered tailgate.
The rest of the line-up’s standard equipment and safety suites have been left untouched from 2022, save for the addition of a new ‘Galaxy Blue Mica’ paint finish.
Isuzu Ute Australia managing director Hiroyasu Sato said all of the MY23 updates are the result of customer feedback and intended to improve the MU-X’s value factor as other manufacturers either downgrade or increase the prices of their vehicles.
“These updates will only broaden its appeal and cement its place as one of the top-choices in the segment,” he said.
“Similar to the 2023 D-MAX stablemate, these updates have been fuelled by customer feedback, adding more value and features to an already value-packed vehicle, without the need of a price increase.”
Both the 2023 MU-X and the new D-MAX will officially go on sale as of December 1. So far this year, the MU-X remains Australia’s third best selling large SUV behind the Toyota Prado and Kluger.
