It was revealed last week that Toyota and the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were investigating reports of inconsistent steering assistance in American market Corollas.
According to the reports, the cars required immediate correction as if in a strong cross-wind. As yet, the Corolla's steering system in North American markets is not subject to a recall, but that may yet change.
Toyota Australia issued a statement today that there have been no such cases reported in this country and the locally-delivered cars are fitted with an electrically-assisted power steering system from Japan, a different system from that fitted to American cars.
The latest word on the Corolla follows three recalls issued by Toyota in the US for floor mats which have fouled the accelerator pedal, the pedal itself and now the braking system for the Prius hybrid.
