The Volvo XC60 will be officially introduced to the public and media alike at the Geneva Motor Show, from March 4.
Ahead of the launch, the Ford-owned manufacturer has released pictures of the new SUV in production trim.
Although Volvo has not announced the Australian specifications or pricing, the XC60 will plainly be pitched against the Volkswagen Tiguan and BMW's X3, to name a couple.
Volvo tells us that the new model will feature 'City Safety', which -- among other functions -- applies the brakes automatically if the system determines that an impact with a vehicle in front is either possible or, worse, unavoidable.
"We are the first manufacturer in the world to offer this type of feature as standard. The car is packed with our accumulated safety know-how and technology, both when it comes to preventing accidents and protecting all the occupants in a collision," says Volvo Cars President and CEO Fredrik Arp.
If the car is due to go on sale locally in the early part of 2009, we would expect to see it previewed at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney later this year.
