Opel Australia has confirmed the Mokka compact SUV for local release in the third quarter of this year.
Based on the Chevrolet Trax, which will be sold here as the Holden Trax from around the same time, the Mokka will be Opel’s fifth model line after the Corsa, Astra, Insignia and recently confirmed Zafira people-mover.
Opel has revealed that our Mokka will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine matched with both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and available in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
Expect the Mokka’s Australian starting price to be somewhere between $25,000 and $30,000 – slightly above that of the Holden Trax but in line with a plethora of new compact SUVs coming this year.
They include the Ford EcoSport, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur, all of which will vie with Nissan’s top-selling Dualis in the booming small SUV segment.
