Opel teases Crossland X SUV

GM brand gives glimpse of new SUV-mini-people mover that will partner Trax in Europe

Opel has released images of a new family-orientated SUV that it will partner the brand's version of the Holden Trax in Europe.

Called the Crossland X, the new SUV is set to blend an off-roader’s looks with the flexibility of a mini-people mover.

Set to replace the Meriva, the first teaser images suggest the new Opel sports heavy influence from the Astra hatch and new Insignia that will be rebadged and replace our Commordore.

Created, Opel says, to appeal to "families who demand agility and convenience in urban driving, but enough comfort and performance to cover long distances. at the drop of a hat".

Said to sit alongside the current Opel Mokka X (that's rebranded the Holden Trax Down Under) the Crossland X is likely to share engines and transmissions with its similarly-sized SUV.

Despite looking similar to the current range of Opels, beneath its skin the new SUV is based on a Peugeot-Citroen platform.

The Crossland X follows a new trend of car makers, like the Renault Scenic, of giving people movers a more overt SUV-look.
