Out now: motoring iPad App 53

In issue 53 of the motoring.com.au iPad App we pit the HSV GTS against the FPV R-SPEC in a battle of Homegrown Heroes

Ford versus Holden. FPV versus HSV. It’s a duel that stretches back 45 years, and one that is the subject of much debate, from backyard barbeques to workplace kitchens and, of course, the racetrack.

The formula might appear the same outwardly -- four doors, eight cylinders and five seats -- but under the bonnet these wheeled warriors now, for the first (and perhaps only) time, both pack a mighty supercharged punch. Who wins the comparison of muscle, the FPV R-SPEC or the new HSV GTS? Download this edition of the motoring.com.au iPad App magazine and find out.

And you can also meet Andy Green, sometimes referred to as the rocket man. A Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force in the UK, he will will try and crack 1609km/h (1000mph) behind the controls of an all-new rocket car in 2016. The $30 million Bloodhound SSC will be powered by three engines -- the smallest a 588kW (800hp) Cosworth F1 engine whose sole purpose is to pump 40 litres of fuel per second to the main engines, plus one jet and one rocket engine. This is just the start of the story, and Psy's Gangnam Style even gets a mention.

Plus, we review a handful of newly launched models including the Fiat Punto. We take it for a drive to see how far forward it has travelled, but if want something a little more exciting, perhaps hot and French, the Peugeot 208 GTi might just be for you. And finally we travel to the Australian Alps and back in the stylish Mercedes-Benz GL.

We preview the upcoming F1 2013 racing game and as usual explore the world of gadgets including an easy-to-install speedometer head up display.
