Outback and Forester with more

Subaru adds more equipment and drops the price on Outback, and Forester X available with alloys, foglights for a limited time

Subaru has dropped the price of the 2011-plated (or 2012 Model Year) Outback by $1000 and added reversing camera and satnav. Subaru says the extra equipment is valued at around $2500.The Outback line-up now starts from $37,490 for the 2.5i. The entry model also comes with USB connectivity as standard and all models come with a full-size spare.

The range-topping 3.6R Premium Outback model features Subaru's EyeSight driver system which combines active, passive and preventative safety technologies to provide assistance such as pre-crash braking, adaptive cruise control and lane sway/departure warning. The system can also detect pedestrians and other road users like cyclists.

According to Subaru the system has been extensively tested here for the last 12 months by engineers from both Subaru Australia and Fuji Heavy Industries. Australia is the first market outside Japan to receive the EyeSight technology.

The Outback upgrade follows the addition of reversing cameras rangewide for the Liberty model, announced in December.

In other good news from Subaru Australia, the 2011-plated Forester X is available with 16-inch alloys, replacing the steel versions, and foglights. The company says the extra equipment adds $2900 value to the entry level model.

The upgraded Outback and Forester are available from Subaru dealers now.
