Pajero range revamped and refitted

Mitsubishi's aging off-road wagon gains extra equipment and NVH suppression for 2015
A mildly facelifted Pajero has been announced by Mitsubishi in a bid to keep the venerable SUV fresh and relevant in the market.
The importer has also consolidated the model range in a new three-tier strategy, amalgamating the former GLX-R and VRX trim levels in one new grade, the Pajero GLS. Local-spec vehicles come with added standard equipment and the price has been lowered in the case of the flagship Exceed variant.
The icing on the cake is extra sound-dampening insulation for automatic variants, to reduce NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). Suppressing noise has been achieved by means of insulating material added to the bonnet, top cowl, floor, headlining, rear quarter trim and transmission tunnel area near the firewall. Additionally, the laminated firewall has gained an extra layer of insulation.
Cosmetic changes comprise a new front bumper, chrome radiator grille and spare tyre cover design. The centre fascia in the cabin has been restyled and climate control dials are now finished in chrome. With the latest update, all Pajero models seat seven as standard.
At the entry level, the Pajero GLX remains priced at $50,990 and migrates to 18-inch alloy wheels – from 17-inch alloys previously – and scores front LED DRLs (daytime running lights), privacy glass, HID headlights and chrome door handles/mirrors as standard.
Splitting the difference in price between the GLX-R model and the VRX, the new Pajero GLS is priced at $58,990 and draws on the 18-inch wheel package, chrome door handles/mirrors and privacy glass upgrade for the GLX. Furthermore, it adopts many of the standard features fitted to the Pajero VRX for $5000 less (and $5000 more than the Pajero GLX-R). Those features include Mitsubishi's Multi Communication System (MMCS) with satellite navigation, reversing sensors, rain-sensing wipers, dusk-sensing headlights and heated/electrically adjustable seats trimmed partly in leather.
Pajero Exceed rounds out the range, priced at $65,990 – $8000 cheaper than before. For that money, the Pajero Exceed is equipped to the same level, but now comes with automatic high beam.
"The Pajero has been a long favourite of Australian customers with its remarkable 4WD capabilities, safety features and exceptional power and performance," said Executive Director of Marketing Tony Principe, as quoted in a press release.
"The Pajero nameplate has rightfully earned its reputation for legendary off-road performance through decades of development and success in motorsport.
"The updated 2015 Pajero range is packed full of features and offers the ultimate in premium four-wheel driving with no compromise on value.
"We've added luxury specifications across the range to enhance drive comfort and convenience with a model to suit every adventure."
