PARIS MOTOR SHOW: More power for Kia Soul
South Korean manufacturer announces new donk for its quirky hatchKia has revealed that its space-efficient hatch, the Soul, is now available with a brand new 150 kW, 1.6-litre T-GDI four cylinder engine, making it the most powerful Soul ever.
Borrowing its new engine from its hatchback siblings, the cee'd GT and pro_cee'd GT, the Soul tears off from a standing start for a 0-100km/h time of 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h. What's more, the new engine in the Soul produces just 156 g/km of CO2 and delivers an impressive 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres.
The Soul's new-found power reaches the front wheels via Kia's new seven speed dual-clutch transmission. Kia says the new transmission will provide "instant gear changes and decisive acceleration at all speeds".
Performance will be reined in by a larger brake package for the 1.6 T-GDI model, to cope with the car's extra oomph.
A number of exterior modifications only found on the powerful new model will distinguish the new Soul 1.6 T-GDI from its lesser siblings. These modifications include "a bolder front bumper and air intake grille design, twin exhaust pipes at the rear, and its own 10-spoke 18-inch aluminium alloy wheel design. The model features the T-GDI engine badge on the tailgate, as well as a unique red Soul model logo. Completing the sportier appearance of the T-GDI model are red highlights to the front bumper and side sills."
The exclusivity continues on the inside with black cloth and leather interior featuring orange accented stitching and a flat bottomed steering wheel, just like a racing car.
There is no word from Kia as yet on the price of the upgraded Soul or when it will be available in Australia.
