Peugeot has confirmed it will release its all-new 2008 compact crossover globally next year... And it's coming to Australia.
Based on the French brand’s redesigned 208 hatchback, which itself goes on sale here later this month, the 2008 will be presented in thinly veiled concept form at the Paris Motor Show on September 27. However, the fluorescent yellow showcar is believed to provide an accurate indication of the final production version of the 2008
It follows three similar concepts cars including the Urban Crossover that debuted at Beijing in April.
Peugeot’s answer to the Nissan Juke, the 2008 will join the Mitsubishi ASX-based 4008 and Outlander-based 4007 crossovers in local showrooms. It is slightly longer than the Juke at 4140mm but narrower at 1740mm.
Designed by Peugeot Style teams in Paris, Shanghai and Sao Paulo and presenting a variation of the new 208 hatchback’s raked front-end and windscreen, the 2008 adds a taller ride height, chunkier quarter panels and flared wheel-arches.
The 2008 will be powered by a new 82kW 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and built in France, China and Brazil.
Aimed at young city-dwellers, the 2008 will be joined on sale next year (at least in Europe) by another all-new French mini-SUV – a Clio-based crossover from direct rival, Renault.
