PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Porsche unveils its new 911 GT3 Cup Car

Porsche has lifted the covers from its new GT3 Cup Car at the Paris Motor Show, and the big news is the new engine, as we reported back in July.

Gone is the 3.8-litre flat-six engine used in the current-gen racer, in its place the new GT3 Cup Car will use a whopping 4.0-litre, flat-six powerplant. The new engine will develop an impressive 357kW, which is a 19kW step up from its 3.8-litre predecessor.

Porsche also revealed that the Cup Car has a number of new, advanced technologies to ensure the car is not only more reliable, but cheaper to maintain.

According to Porsche, these changes are "a valve drive with rigidly-mounted rocker arms and a central oil feed". This set-up is being used for the very first time, Porsche says.

"Furthermore, an integrated oil centrifuge is used to optimise oil defoaming in the engine. A crankshaft with significantly increased rigidity has also been installed."

Other changes over the GT3's predecessor include a new front apron and a new rear end, which Porsche claims will further aid traction and performance.

The new GT3 Cup Car will make its debut here in Australia at the beginning of 2018 for the Australian Porsche Carrera Cup championship.

Porsche has quoted a price of 189,000 euros, which roughly equates to $278,000 Aussie dollars, however there is no official word from Porsche on how much the GT3 Cup Car will actually cost in Australia.
