PARIS MOTOR SHOW: SsangYong XIV concepts teased
Two new show cars provide a further preview of SsangYong's small SUV, the X100SsangYong will unveil what the company describes as "the final development concepts" for the X100 – a small SUV in much the same vein as Holden's Trax.
Named XIV-Air (silver) and XIV-Adventure (green), the two design studies are claimed to embody the manufacturer's ostensible development philosophy: 'Robust, Specialty and Premium' and the design theme is tagged 'Nature born – 3 Motion'. No, we don't know what that means either...
The XIV name is apparently an abbreviation – of sorts – for 'eXciting user-Interface Vehicle'. Again, we're not too certain what that means.
SsangYong has been showcasing small SUV concepts since the Frankfurt motor show of 2011, so the existence of the new concepts headed for Paris suggests the company is still trying to gauge what consumers want from a production X100 SUV. Au contraire, however, SsangYong has confirmed the X100 will certainly go on sale next year, meaning these two cars are as close to production reality as we're likely to see.
The Paris concepts measure 4.2 metres in length, on a 2.6m wheelbase. Power is derived from either 1.6-litre petrol or 1.6-litre diesel four-cylinder powerplants, both Euro 6-compliant.
