Blue Drive represents Hyundai's push toward global auotmotive
leadership in environmentally conscious technologies, and already
includes four green savvy models including the i10 Blue, i20 Blue, i30
Blue concept and ix35 Blue – all of which utilise highly efficient low
capacity turbodiesel engines. Now following the same route, two new
models on show at Paris highlight another step forward for Blue Drive,
the ix20 Blue and ix35 hybrid each demonstrating an alternate
powertrain.
As the third model in Hyundai's European line-up to adopt the
'fluidic sculpture' design language, the new ix20 Blue will go on sale
later this year alongside its conventionally powered stablemates.
Hyundai says the ix20 blurs the lines between mini-MPV and small hatch
body styles. Its 'Blue' variant features a 1.4-litre turbodiesel engine
mated to a six-speed manual transmission. CO2 emissions are rated at
114g/km.
The mild hybrid ix35 hybrid concept will advance Hyundai's existing
technologies even further adding a 5kW electric motor to a 85kW
turbodiesel engine for a combined CO2 tally of just 117g/km.
Coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, the Hyundai ix35 hybrid
also incorporates a highly efficient variable geometry turbocharger,
underbody cover for improved aerodynamics, Idle Stop & Go system and
low rolling resistance tyres to further optimise fuel efficiency.
Most Hyundai Blue Drive models closely resemble their standard
equivialnts, but are identifiable by bespoke badging and paint colour,
such as that seen on the Lavender Blue i20 Blue pictured.
