Pedders' free towing-safety check goes live
Online vehicle weight calculator will keep you safe and on the right side of the lawSuspension specialist Pedders has introduced a free, web-based Matrix tow load and assessment service for consumers.
The online calculator is based on the company's "world first" Matrix tow load and assessment service rolled out to Pedders outlets early last year.
According to Pedders, the Weight Matrix survey is aimed at 4WD enthusiasts who tow caravans, boats, horse floats and, of course, trailers. Entering the data on the web page takes just minutes to complete and "is a revolutionary and simple way to determine the weight of your vehicle from accessories, passengers, loads and towing".
Users simply key in the data concerning the owner's vehicle – including make, model, passengers by weight and accessories fitted, such as bull bars, roof racks, winches and tow bars, along with the downball mass for the trailer. The software calculates the weight of the vehicle, measured against original manufacturer specifications.
A report is sent to the user by email, covering vehicle load, remaining payload capacity, estimated additional braking distance and the weight balance shift (forward and rearward) for that particular vehicle.
Pedders emphasises that the online assessment should be considered a guide only, since it requires some estimations and may not paint a completely accurate picture. Pedders recommends a more accurate and comprehensive assessment, which can be conducted in-store, at a price of $75 for those concerned about the effects of caravan and tow vehicle weights on vehicle handling and safety.
Scott Pedder, Managing Director of the Pedders Suspension Group, said the 67-year-old company's Tow and Load Assessment service had already assisted thousands of Australian motorists with their towing and load-carrying needs since it was introduced last year.
