Penultimate Overland variant joins Jeep Grand Cherokee L range

Our predictions ring true as Jeep ushers in a new $103K Grand Cherokee L Overland variant

Jeep Australia has done exactly as we predicted and quietly introduced an Overland variant to its seven-seat Jeep Grand Cherokee L line-up, with the newcomer positioned and priced as the penultimate offering beneath the Summit Reserve flagship.

As forecast by carsales earlier this month, the Grand Cherokee L Overland is priced from $103,250 plus on-road costs and comes with many of the same toys as the range flagship.

However, it misses out on equipment including quilted Palermo leather upholstery, 12-way power adjustable seats with memory and massage functions, wood trim, premium McIntosh sound system and illuminated sill plates.

That’s not to say the Overland is poorly equipped – indeed it scores Nappa leather trim, multi-colour interior ambient lighting, hands-free tailgate, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, hill descent control and 20-inch alloy wheels.

All of the same high-end mechanicals are included as well; primarily the Jeep Quadra Trac II active 4x4 system with Selec-Terrain, Quadra Lift air suspension and adaptive dampers.

Drive comes from the same 210kW/344Nm 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine as the rest of the range and is harnessed by the same eight-speed automatic transmission.

The first examples of the new Overland will be in local showrooms by the end of this month, according to a Jeep Australia spokesperson, when it will be joined by a swathe of running updates for the other grades – without any impact on the Grand Cherokee L’s local pricing.

Starting from the bottom, the entry-level Night Eagle is arguably the biggest benefactor here given it scores the same 10.1-inch (up from 8.4) infotainment interface as the higher grades and a new steering wheel, but it also transitions from suede and leather upholstery to suede and vinyl.

The Limited also picks up the new tiller and will likewise shift from vinyl and leather trim to solely vinyl upholstery, but scores a new black headliner (instead of beige) and redesigned alloy wheels.

No variant-specific changes have been made to the Summit Reserve, but all 2023-plated variants will ship with a new RDG global telematics module featuring RTS connectivity – translating to enhanced connected services.

How much does the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L cost?
Night Eagle – $77,950
L Night Eagle – $82,750
Limited – $83,950
L Limited – $88,750
Overland – $98,450
L Overland – $103,250
L Summit Reserve – $115,950
* Prices exclude on-road costs
