Veteran Volvo/Polestar racer Thed Björk has taken out the driver's championship in the FIA World Touring Car Championship behind the wheel of an S60 Polestar TC1. It's the first time a Swede has won the championship. For the icing on the cake, Polestar Cyan Racing has snatched the manufacturer's title for the series as well.
To commemorate the respective wins, Volvo is offering S60 and V60 buyers a bundle of performance parts to give the cars a little extra pizzazz. Badged 'Polestar Performance World Champion Editions', the uprated cars are equipped with 19-inch Polestar alloy wheels, a low-restriction stainless-steel exhaust system, sports air filter, and uprated dampers and springs. Additionally, Polestar powertrain optimisation unleashes further engine output – 8kW and 50Nm extra.
A rear diffuser, rear spoiler and a Polestar gear lever are the only clues that the fettled S60 or V60 is not your garden-variety Volvo. The company is making the performance parts available for D4, D5, T5 and T6 models, and the parts can be retrofitted.
"The engineers from Polestar and Cyan Racing have worked collaboratively on engineering developments for existing Polestar road cars for many years," says Polestar's product development boss, says Christian Samson.
"It's therefore fitting that we celebrate the remarkable achievement of securing our maiden World Championship by adding more performance to the cars that have been instrumental this season. With the Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar Performance World Champion Editions, we've created an accessible piece of history for many Volvo car owners."
