Peugeot Citroen Australia has gone on a discounting rampage, announcing savings of up to $30,000 for previous model year vehicles as it attempts to clear old stock and increase sales.
Peugeot sales increased by just 0.6 per cent in the first half of this year in a new-car market that was up 8.7 per cent, while its French sister brand Citroen endured a 36.2 per cent sales slip in the same period, despite being up 10.6 per cent in June.
Starting at the top and working our way down, the biggest discounts apply to 2022 and 2023 Peugeot 508 GT PHEV sedans and wagons, which can currently be had from just $57,990 drive-away in MY22 Fastback guise instead of the usual $81,610 plus on-road costs.
The MY23 version starts from $59,990 drive-away whereas the five-door Sportswagon is available from $61,990 drive-away rather than its typical $82,915 plus ORCs sticker price.
By the time they’re on the road that means discounts of more than $30,000, $28,000 and $27,000 respectively, depending on which state or territory you’re in. The savings will be bigger in Western Australia than in Victoria or the ACT due to higher statutory on-road costs.
Another Pug being majorly discounted is the Peugeot 3008 compact SUV, which has had between $8000 and $18,000 scraped off its asking price depending on the variant (again by the time it’s on the road), with the top-spec GT Sport getting the biggest haircut – down from $63,390 plus ORCs to $50,990 drive-away.
The lesser 3008 GT, meantime, can be had from $47,990 drive-away (versus $57,400 plus ORCs), whereas the base Allure trim temporarily starts from $45,990 drive-away and includes a complimentary Luxury Pack – down from $50,075 plus ORCs (and another $5990 for the Luxury Pack).
The bigger Peugeot 5008 GT Sport medium SUV has had upwards of $7500 taken off its final price ($62,990 drive-away versus its $65,657 recommended retail price), as has the 2008 Allure small SUV ($35,990 drive-away versus $39,990 RRP).
Savings on the higher-spec 2008 GT are slightly more modest at roughly $6000 ($41,990 drive-away versus $44,490 RRP).
The biggest variance in discounts applies to Peugeot’s answer to the Volkswagen Golf, the 308 hatch, ranging from roughly $500 for turbo-petrol versions to more than $10,000 for the flagship GT Sport PHEV ($59,990 drive-away versus $64,990 RRP), and that’s before you factor in the remaining state government ZEV incentives.
More than $14,000 has been shaved off the final price of the battery-electric Peugeot E-Partner van, which can now be had from just $49,990 drive-away instead of $59,990 plus on-roads, and the rest of Peugeot’s commercial models have been discounted by roughly 11 per cent.
As for Citroen, the penultimate turbo-petrol C5 X Shine medium SUV usually retails from $57,670 plus ORCs, but remaining MY22 examples are currently on special for $45,990 drive-away – a saving of more than $16,000.
MY23 C5 Aircross Sports vehicles, meantime, are available from $44,990 drive-away – down from $54,990 plus ORCs – while the current C4 Shine starts from $37,990 drive-away instead of the normal $43,490 plus ORCs.
Note that all of the discounts covered in this article are available only until July 31 or while stocks last.
