Peugeot wait time now up to four months

And customers ordering a specific-spec Citroen could wait as long as three months

Not all automotive makes and models have been affected equally by the global supply chain crisis, which has led to longer waiting times for customer deliveries of new vehicles across the industry, with Peugeot Citroen Australia (PCA) revealing its local stock levels are looking relatively healthy.

The latest word from PCA is that it has “SUV, passenger and LCV models on the ground and readily available in Australia and in transit” from both French brands, but there could still be some lengthy wait times depending on the model and its individual specification.

Starting with Peugeot, consumers may have to wait between 90 and 120 days – up to four months – to receive their new Peugeot 2008, 3008 or 508 “should their specific specification order vary from available stock in Australia or in transit”.

It’s a similar story with the Peugeot 5008, albeit with roughly half the waiting time (up to 60 days).

Affected Citroens models, meanwhile, comprise the C3, C4 and C5 Aircross, all of which could take between 60 and 90 days – up to three months – to arrive if not already in stock or transit.

“We advise customers to discuss their specific order directly with their local Peugeot retailer or Citroen retailer for information on wait times,” a PCA spokesperson said in a statement to carsales.

In addition to some potential waiting times, PCA has had to tweak the spec of the flagship 2022 Peugeot 5008 GT Diesel, with locally delivered examples retaining the MY21 version’s 18-inch wheels instead of rolling on the fresher 19s.

On the subject of changed plans, the local launch of the new-generation Peugeot 308 has been pushed back to the second half of the year following production delays in Europe inflicted by the ongoing semi-conductor shortage.

“The global automotive industry faces an exceptional situation with the accumulation of the health crisis and a worldwide shortage of semiconductors,” the spokesperson said.

“Our global teams are mobilised to drive manufacturing activity in this unstable context and understand the need to adapt accordingly.”

One of the unfortunate adaptations in the face of challenging business conditions was the portfolio-wide price hikes implemented on Peugeot at the start of this year, which ranged between $1350 and $3000 depending on the variant.
