Peugeot wants you to help it reveal its new 508 wagon

French car-maker begins drip-feed for wagon version of chic 508 unveiled earlier this year

Peugeot has invited users of social media to 'break the code' to unveil a new car it will reveal before the end of this year.

Almost certain to be a wagon version of the 508 sedan it unveiled in March at the Geneva motor show, the new 508 SW is set to go head-to-head with cars like the Volkswagen Passat wagon and the Holden Commodore Tourer.

Set to make its public debut at the Paris motor show in late September, the wagon will benefit from the move to the PSA's latest EMP2 platform that, in the sedan, shaved 70kg off its predecessor’s kerb weight.

Inside, the 508 gets Peugeot's minimalist 'i-Cockpit' cabin that combines a compact steering wheel and a 12.3-inch digital customisable instrument screen.

In the centre of the dash, another 10-inch touch-screen display goes further to reduce the button count.

Under the bonnet there will be a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol four with either 134kW or 168kW and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four that will be offered in different states of tune, from 100kW to 134kW.

All models are front-wheel drive and come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Later on, both the sedan and wagon will also come with a plug-in hybrid version.

The 508 wagon is expected to follow the 508 sedan to market, with both models due on sale in Australia by early 2019.
