Pininfarina Battista claims quickest production car title

The 2023 Pininfarina Battista has claimed a new production-car acceleration record, laying down an 8.55-second quarter-mile time to narrowly beat the 8.58sec benchmark set by the Rimac Nevera in 2021.

The most powerful road-legal car ever produced in Italy, the Pininfarina Battista has already recorded a 0-100km/h sprint of just 1.86sec and an incredible 0-200km/h dash of just 4.75sec, so it was perhaps inevitable that the $3.5m electric hypercar would excel at the quarter mile.

The latest record was run independently by journalists at India’s Natrax test facility, where the Battista could deploy its full 1416kW and 2340Nm of torque that’s generated by four e-motors.

It also verified its top speed, with the Battista clocking 358.03km/h.

Trumping the Rimac Nevera will be seen as a considerable coup for Pininfarina, not least because the Battista is based on the same platform and features the same powertrain as its closest Croatian rival.

The test in India was not verified by independent witnesses working for Guinness World Records, but the acceleration and top speed claims were ratified by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.

As part of the tests, driver Renuka Kirpalani clocked a top speed run of 357.10km/h, making her the world’s fastest Indian female driver.

The Pininfarina Battista is limited to just 150 units, allocated equally between North America, Europe and the Middle East and Asia (including Australia).

The Melbourne-based exotic car dealership, Lorbek Luxury Cars, has announced its partnership with Automobili Pininfarina, for which it will be the Italian marque’s official local sales and service provider.
