Pininfarina set to build McLaren Speedtail rival

New all-electric limited-edition hyper-GT on the menu for Italian specialist car-maker

Automobili Pininfarina has begun teasing its next model that will sit alongside the $3.5m Pininfarina Battista hypercar, announcing that it will be a “limited-edition hyper-GT”.

Coinciding with the Italian marque’s fifth anniversary as a car-maker, the new model will be revealed in the second half of this year.

Specifications, build numbers and other details remain under wraps, however Pininfarina has released a picture of the car under drapes.

From the teaser, we can clearly see a huge rear wing, plus a front screen that looks similar to the Battista.

It’s expected to adopt the all-electric Battista’s 1416kW and 2300Nm powertrain, providing the more comfort-biased limited-edition with ballistic acceleration that will still come close to matching the 1.86sec 0-100km/h sprint.

Top speed should be around 350km/h, while a massive 120kWh battery pack should provide a driving range of up to 476km.

Beneath the skin, the new car is likely to be based on the same carbon-fibre monocoque as the Battista, which features bolt-on aluminium crash structures at the front and rear that packages the battery in a T-shape, lying below the central tunnel and behind the driver and passenger seats.

Speaking at the Battista’s Canadian debut in Toronto, Pininfarina CEO Paolo Dellacha said the new hyper-GT would be the first of a series of new cars.

“We are committed to delighting even more clients in the future, and our team is excited to present the first in a series of spectacular new cars we have prepared for our growing client community this summer,” he said.

“We will showcase a new dimension of our design creativity while honouring the legacy of the Pininfarina name.”

The Italian brand, which is most famous for its car design and coachbuilding divisions, said it was aiming to sell 8000-10,000 vehicles per year in the short-to-medium term.

For that to be achieved, it will need to introduce more models at more affordable prices.
