The recently revealed Volvo V40 R-Design is about to be upstaged by a warmer version by the Swedish firm’s performance division, Polestar.
Speaking to motoring.com.au at the Paris Motor Show, Volvo V40 R-Design project manager, Susanna Johansson, said that similar to other Polestar models, the enhanced V40 will receive only a software tune, but she remained tight lipped on performance figures.
“That is definitely in our plans, especially for your market,” she laughed. “We are looking to have this launched next year, and we already have S60 and V60 T6 Polestar. So V40, S60 and V60 will all have a Polestar connection.”
The Swedish technical expert admitted a full mechanical enhancement, including brakes and suspension upgrades, were in the pipeline, but wouldn’t say when the project would reach fruition. Only saying it’s part of a longer-term strategy for the marque’s performance arm.
“If I personally could make the decision, I would love to see if tomorrow,” shared Ms Johansson. “But there is [a place for such modifications] in the future, yes, and we are working on a strategy to put them in place.”
Volvo Australia will release the first of its V40 range locally from February 2013.
