Pomp and circumstance

Bentley has the pomp, Trivett takes advantage of the circumstance

Multi-franchise group, Trivett Classic, will take the reins as Sydney's sole Bentley dealer from 8 June.

The company will continue to sell the prestigious British marque from the current premises in Five Dock, but will re-locate to a new premises shortly.

After an initial rush of enthusiasm for the brand -- following the split from previous owner Rolls-Royce -- Bentley has struggled for sales in Australia. The company, owned by Volkswagen since 2002, sold just nine cars locally in 2006, down from 25 in 2005 and 126 in 2004.

Interest has waned in the 'volume' sellers, the Continental GT (see review here) and the Flying Spur. The appointment of the new dealer will possibly reduce the sales decline in the short term.
